Disc images are still the standard way to distribute operating systems, recovery tools and old software. UltraISO lets you work with them as if they were folders. You open an image, see its file tree, and add, delete or rename files and folders directly inside it, then save the result as a new image. It can also build an image from files on your disk or from a physical CD or DVD, convert formats like ISZ, DMG, DAA and UIF into standard ISO, and mount images on a virtual drive. One of its most used functions is writing a bootable USB stick from an ISO, which is how many people install Windows on a PC without an optical drive. The program keeps the boot information of the image, so you can edit a bootable disc and it stays bootable. ISZ is the developer's own compressed image format.
UltraISO is shareware. The trial lets you try the functions, but saved images are limited in size; to remove the limit you buy a licence on the official website.
Keygens and cracked builds of UltraISO are common on warez sites and are a frequent source of malware. Writing an image to USB erases the drive, so check the selected disk twice. The version history lists fixes in each release.
Keep a copy of the original image before editing it, and test a modified bootable image in a virtual machine before writing it to USB.
